Fenerbahce’s manager, Jose Mourinho, expressed his strong discontent following his team’s hard-fought 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor in the Super Lig match on Sunday.
Despite the win, Jose Mourinho’s post-match comments focused heavily on the officiating and the use of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) in the game.
In an interview with the media after the game, Jose Mourinho made a striking analogy, suggesting that the VAR officials seemed more interested in “drinking tea” than actively performing their duties.
His tone hinted at a deep frustration with the decision-making process that he felt impacted the game’s outcome.
Mourinho went on to voice his regret about joining Fenerbahce, revealing that had he known the “full truth” about the refereeing practices in Turkey, he might not have accepted the managerial role.
During the second half of the match, Trabzonspor was granted two penalties after VAR reviews, decisions that sparked further irritation for Mourinho. However, it was Sofyan Amrabat’s late goal in stoppage time that secured the win for Fenerbahce, allowing them to escape with three points despite the controversy surrounding the officiating.
Mourinho did not hold back when discussing the Fenerbahce officials who had brought him to the club. He said, “I blame the Fenerbahce people that brought me here. They told me only half of the truth.” He continued to express that if he had been fully informed of the situation surrounding the refereeing standards, he would have opted against taking the managerial position.
In a particularly scathing assessment of the match officials, Mourinho specifically called out referee Atilla Karaoglan, stating that he should not officiate another Fenerbahce match in the future.
“The referee was just a little boy that was there on the pitch,” Jose Mourinho remarked, illustrating his belief that Karaoglan was influential in the match. He added, “He goes from the invisible man to the most important man in the match.”
