The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) is set to have a new Comptroller-General as Mrs. Kemi Nana Nandap approaches her retirement.

According to reliable sources, Mrs. Nandap’s retirement became effective on Thursday, October 9, 2024, after completing 35 years of service.

Despite this, Nandap has remained silent on her impending exit, and NIS officials have yet to make any official statements.

According to Western Post, the newly appointed Head of Service, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has also not commented on the matter.

Nandap, who was commissioned into the service on October 9, 1989, reached her mandatory retirement age in accordance with the Public Service Rule 020908, which governs retirement policies for NIS officials.

A member of the 22nd Basic Course of the NIS Training School in Kano, Mrs. Nandap worked her way up through the ranks before being appointed Comptroller-General of Immigration on March 1, 2024.

With her retirement imminent, it is expected that President Bola Tinubu will soon announce her replacement.

Potential candidates include several Deputy Comptrollers-General (DCGs), such as DCG AJ Umanah, DCG CM Dike, DCG DC Didel, DCG MT Umar, DCG A Ayeni, and DCG BN Usman.

There is also speculation that the search for Nandap’s successor may extend to Assistant Comptrollers-General (ACGs) to ensure a full tenure. Possible contenders from this rank include ACG C Nomhwange, ACG S James, ACG N Odikpo, ACG AM Shamsudden, and ACG YL Shinkafi.

However, the decision ultimately rests with President Tinubu, who has the option to extend Nandap’s tenure for an additional three to six months, as was the case with her predecessor, Mrs. Caroline Wuraola Adepoju, whose tenure was extended twice following her initial retirement date.
