Protest: Osun State Closes All Schools

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced that his administration is working on implementing a new minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

Naija News reports that Governor Adeleke made this statement during the grand finale of the 14th convocation ceremony of Osun State University, held at the institution’s main campus in Osogbo on Saturday.

Governor Adeleke also acknowledged the difficulties caused by the removal of fuel subsidies, which have increased the financial pressure on workers.

He reassured state employees that his government is taking measures to ease the burden, including plans to introduce the new minimum wage.

We are working on the modalities for the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage. This is part of our commitment to mitigating the impact of recent economic changes on workers in the state,” the governor said.

The governor further emphasised his administration’s commitment to the advancement of Osun State University, citing several initiatives that have been rolled out to support the institution.

These include the completion of an office complex at the Isale-Osun campus to enhance the accreditation process for the university’s health programs.

He highlighted other projects, such as the construction of the ultra-modern Anatomy Complex, which was commissioned earlier that day, and the development of roads leading to student areas at Sasha Market and other university campuses.

We have also supported the university towards the construction of its ultra-modern Anatomy Complex which we commissioned earlier today.

“We have also prioritised the construction of roads leading to the student area at Sasha Market and other campuses of our University.

“We paid a year’s arrears promptly to the staff members. We have also paid palliative allowances to all workers, and we are currently working on the modalities for the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage
,” Adeleke stated.

Governor Adeleke also urged the university community to maintain peace and unity, stressing the importance of a harmonious environment for the institution’s growth.

He called on parents and guardians to continue supporting their children as they move forward in life, while encouraging staff and students to focus on the progress of the university.

He said, “The progress of this citadel of learning can only be sustained through a peaceful and harmonious environment. Let us avoid unnecessary rancour and acrimony. Instead, focus on the common goal of advancing this great institution.

“To the parents and guardians gathered here today, I urge you not to completely let go of your children as they step into the next phase of their lives
.”
