The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would investigate some of the results uploaded to its viewing portal, IREV.
INEC stated this in response to allegations of uploading controversial results to the viewing portal by some collation officers during the Edo governorship election on Saturday.
Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, on his X handle, alleged that two INEC staff, Remiloluwa Oluwajuwon and Obozuwa Josephine, uploaded result sheets that have more votes than accredited voters to the IREV.
Chidoka said, “Presiding Officer Remiloluwa Itiolu Oluwajuwon recorded 250 accredited voters and wrote 263, 11, 97, and 1 for various parties totaling 372 but did not write the total.
“INEC, please advise all Collation Agents to check the BVAS before collating any result and comply with Section 51(2) of the Electoral Act 2022 “Where the number of votes cast at an election in any polling unit exceeds the number of accredited voters on the voters’ register in that polling unit, the Presiding Officer shall cancel the result of the election in that polling unit.”

“Agent Obozuwa Josephine accredited 213 voters out of 493 registered voters but recorded 406 votes in Osholo primary school in Weppa ward of Etsako East. If the Collation officer accepts this result and INEC accepts it, that will be strange.
“At 406 voters of 493, registered is 82% voter turnout.”

In reaction, INEC on its X handle, wrote, “The Commission’s attention has been drawn to an allegation of wrong figures entered into polling unit result sheets in the ongoing Edo State Governorship election.
“This is the second complaint we have received out of the 4,519 polling units used for the election.
“The Commission will immediately investigate the matter and deal with any proven infraction.”
